So I used to dine here in the 1990's-2000's once a week for either a breakfast sandwich to go, or breakfast or lunch at the counter. After they expanded it lost some of its old school diner charm and I only ate there sporadically; occasionally I'd take the family there on a Saturday for breakfast. Fortunately a few weeks back I was off work and downtown taking care of some miscellaneous things and decided to go see George (the owner George Lemperis). He was as loud and gregarious as I recalled, and the food WAY TOO MUCH for one person to eat, just as I recalled. I heard they recently had a fire, but I for one am putting Palace Grill back atop my "Diners" list when they reopen and will return to being a regular.

We wanted to try someplace fun for breakfast and after seeing pictures of this place we knew exactly where to go. The food is your typical diner food but the vibe felt so fun and retro. The walls are decked out in Blackhawks memorabilia and there is an open kitchen behind the bar. Per our waitress's recommendation, I did a create your own omelette with chicken sausage, mozzarella cheese, salsa, and spinach with a side of fruit and rye bread. The omlette was huge and very filling. My only complaint is that is it a bit cramped inside which means it's also pretty loud and hard to carry on a conversation.

Out of this world food and service. Super friendly staff. This place is my all time favorite for brunch. Can't recommend this enough. Very nostalgic ambience. Thanks George and staff for running such amazing place.

If you enjoy things that are "classic Chicago," this is a must-visit. The owner, George, talks to every table like they're old friends. It's the kind of place that has such a family atmosphere that it almost makes you emotional! You walk in feeling like it's the 50s in the best ways, with newspaper articles, sports memorabilia, and photos of celebrities visiting all over the walls. Prices are good for Chicago breakfasts, and portions are hearty. I had the Western Skillet with over easy eggs and it was AMAZING, especially the hashbrowns. Can't wait to come back!

The walls are covered in Blackhawks memorabilia. It's also much more spacious than I thought. Most of the pictures that I saw only showed the bar seating. It was also pretty busy when we arrived, but they still had a few tables available and were able to sit down right away. Service was ok, did feel like we should have been able to put our order in a lot sooner as well as receiving it a lot sooner. My wife ordered their Country Fried Steak and I ordered their Porky Skillet. It came with ham, bacon and sausage on top of hash browns with cheddar cheese and over easy eggs on top. The dish was pretty filling and very meaty. My wife's country fried steak was cooked perfectly. She ordered it with scrambled eggs and it also came with hash browns. The gravy was also really good. Overall some really decent food at a fair price. Can't definitely see myself returning.

The Palace Grill is a Chicago landmark and destination diner. Located on Madison Ave in the shadows of the United Center, the Palace sits unassuming and peaceful, as it has for the better of 85 years. The inside is a mix of classic, contemporary diner with a heavy dash of Chicago Blackhawk memorabilia. Great decor and ambiance. They also have an outdoor patio area that is pet friendly. Had the black and blue salad w/ Chipotle ranch dressing and it did not disappoint. Medium rare steak strips on top of fresh greens, bacon, blue cheese, and red onions. Really good salad. Steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Chipotle ranch dressing was delicious. Couldn't be happier. Look forward to coming back and sampling more of the menu. Great representation of Chicago cuisine and culture!

Came here for my last breakfast meal and it did not disappoint! Once you're seen you're able to choose wherever you'd like to sit. They're quick to check on you and I put in my order as I came in during the last hour they were open. Even though there were lots of people count through to eat. The omelette was packed with potatoes and sausage and the hash browns were cooked to a nice yummy crisp. Staff was all very kind and it was really cool to see all the memorabilia all around of the hawks!! Nice place that I'd definitely come back to!

This is a great no frills restaurant in the West Loop neighborhood. I've been several times for lunch since it's close to work and I never leave disappointed. The restaurant is small but there always seems to be a few open tables or seats at the counter. The food is always good - I usually go with Peter's Favorite which is a delicious Ruben. I've also enjoyed their Pepper & Egg and BLT sandwiches. George is the owner and is extremely welcoming by checking in on all patrons (if you're lucky you'll even get a joke or two.) Palace Grill is a must stop!

Palace Grill is a diner in West Loop, and by that I mean it is a Diner. It has got pretty much everything you could want or expect out of a diner, and it definitely delivers on that promise. Palace Grill feels like a total neighborhood/Chicago institution. I walked in on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the copious amounts of Blackhawks (and other) memorabilia adorning the walls. The vibe here is very homey and warm, and I had a very pleasant solo dining experience. I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich with salami on sourdough with the addition of hashbrowns. The food came out hot and fast. The service was great -- very attentive staff, and everything was quick. The food was exactly how anyone could expect. Didn't blow me away but I didn't expect it to. Good, solid diner food. Large portions too (great value!); I felt stuffed and I had some hashbrowns leftover. I will say: the pickle was fantastic. Awesome crunch and flavor. Overall I enjoyed my experience here. I wasn't dazzled necessarily but it is good to know that there's a good, reliable place like Palace Grill in the neighborhood.

Easy parking. Fast friendly service. Great food. What else do you want? This place came highly recommended by the locals and I can see why. This place is straight, simple and to the point. It is a diner that specializes in breakfast and lunch. Closed for dinner.
